Can I go to medical school or even just eventually become a doctor with a B. H. S. in Health Informatics?

I’ve been accepted for a Spec. Hon. in Health Informatics (B.H.S.) in the Faculty of Health at York U. Will I be able to apply this to attend medical school, and become some kind of doctor? I’m interested in some common knowledge before I start out to research it all. How many years in this program will I have to take before getting a shot at medical school, or do I have to complete it? If I take Health Informatics, will I have to take something of almost identical nature in medical school? I just need the low-down. Thanks!

These requirements are from UofT, who are pretty well the least-biased and most standardized in Ontario. You need at least 3-years of your Bachelor’s degree, and

– minimum GPA of 3.6 / 4.0 on the OMSAS scale
- minimum MCAT scores of 9 in each section and N on the Writing Sample
- two full-course equivalents (FCE) in any life science
- one FCE in any of social sciences, humanities, or a language

You probably won’t be able to take anything related to Informatics in Medical School, but once you graduate from either your Bachelor’s or Medical School, there are Masters degrees in Bio and Health Informatics you can take (I hear Dalhousie’s is awesome.)

Good luck! :)
