I am at an academic dilemma. I am a few classes shy of getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Management. After I am done should I continue and earn a Masters? Or would it be just as wise to earn certificates (eg. case management, health informatics) to enhance my Bachelor Degree to open up more management routes in health care? Thanks!
Thank you so much for the advice!! It showed me different perspectives on the subject and I truly appreciate that. I do work in the prison health care field if that helps to add experience or leverage to my Masters Degree

Absolutely, if you can get an accredited degree from a well established institution, you will make yourself far more marketable. If you want to go into management, an MBA is the bare minimum. However, you have options. You can also get an MPA or an MPH in Health Policy and Management or an HCPM (which is a health management master’s).
With just a bachelor’s, you will not be in the running for any management level jobs, since your competition will all have Master’s degrees or better. Just remember that you’re putting your eggs into one basket if you emphasize in Health Care Management versus a general MBA.
What the above poster did not realize is that economics dictate what is a good or bad education career choice. Manufacturing jobs were being outsourced years ago, so she jumped into a dying field. The U.S. will always need medical care, it is something that cannot be outsourced. It may get difficult to find a job, since everyone and their mother is in school for a medical career, but you have a jump on them since you have the chance to move on before they are finished.
I have an MPA, I don’t manage the medical field, rather government services but I went about a year without a job, but then landed one that paid ridiculously well. I expect that my job will be threatened once our grant funding runs out, but I have saved enough to live comfortably for at least two years without any income. I would be just another statistic without my Master’s.
HOWEVER (pay attention): GET A JOB NOW OR AS SOON AS YOU CAN. A MASTER’S DEGREE WITHOUT EXPERIENCE IS BAD FOR YOUR CAREER AND WILL MAKE IT HARD TO START OUT. That is all.

I got the same degree, but with an emphasis on manufacturing. It’s actually hurt me since the manufacturing industry has gone away, many other fields won’t hire me because I’m ‘over qualified’.
I’m not trying to discourage you, but be aware that life can take some strange turns.
